Class programmes primary education - at school

Below you can find the 3 class programmes that you can follow with your class at school. A Sonnenborgh staff member will come to the school with a bicycle trailer full of educational materials or with a large inflatable planetarium.

kleuterprogramma

Grades 1-2: Hi Sonnie!

Preschool programme about day/night. Sonnie the space creature takes pre-schoolers on an investigation about day and night on Earth. A subject that is, of course, a mystery to Sonnie himself. Students investigate what a light source is and what reflects light. Then students playfully discover the concepts behind day and night.

Grades 5-8: Long live the planets

In this class programme, students discover what it takes to live on a planet. What role do water and temperature play on a planet? How different are the planets near our sun? Is air always important? Where is life possible: only on Earth…? Students are challenged to design their own habitable planet.

Planetarium show

The planetarium is a cinema in the shape of a hemisphere. On the inside of the sphere, you can see the universe projected. During a show, you can take a journey to planets, galaxies, gas nebulae and zoom in on the sun, moon or other celestial bodies as desired.

Sonnenborgh has a mobile planetarium which we use to visit schools. The inflatable dome can accommodate about 25 students and can be set up in auditoriums, gyms and canteens. Book a series of shows in succession to introduce multiple classes to the secrets of the universe. Note: Unfortunately, we are currently fully booked in terms of planetarium shows. As soon as space becomes available again, we will indicate it here.

Practical information

  • All class programmes last 1.5 hours, with the exception of the preschool programme Hi Sonnie!; which lasts 1 hour.
  • The astronomy class programmes contribute directly to core objectives 42 (investigation of physical phenomena) and 46 (position of Earth relative to the sun). In addition to core objectives 42 and 46, the meteorology class programme also contributes to core objective 43 (learning how to describe weather and climate using temperature, precipitation and wind).
  • In each class programme, we use the following methods: talking (interactive presentation in the lecture hall), looking (through a telescope) and doing (research). Two weeks before your school visits Sonnenborgh, you will receive preparatory educational material by e-mail.
